SOUTH KEYS – Journalists threw their pens down today in exasperation. “We give up!” is the cry of this nation’s satirical writers, as they read the most recent issue of the New York Post. “Honestly, how did they get better at this than us, and when did they start taking us so seriously?” asked news editor Thomas Tables (38). Elaborating further he said, “Can we sue for plagiarism?”
“In the golden days of satirical journalism, anything was game,” Tables stated. “Just a headline and picture would do. You didn’t even have to write anything. These days you can’t tell where satire ends and reality starts. Politicians even sue us for factual inaccuracy – the ultimate irony.”
With what amounts to a tumultuous ten years in politics, entertainment, and sports, even daily life appears to be a poor attempt at humor. “They’ve beat [sic] us at our own game,” stated a staff writer who chose to remain anonymous. “Even absurdity is front page news – did you read the New York Times recently? They can’t get enough of it.”
When asked what the future holds for satirical journalism, Tables laughed and replied, “Of course we’re going to keep going. You should see the ad revenues.”
