SOUTH KEYS – On Wednesday evening, Keri Daytona (24), waitress at the local German brewhouse Best Wurst, was disappointed when a lone man sitting in her section left her a $100 tip. “I was flirting with him all evening and all I got was a lousy tip,” Daytona complained to this reporter.
Tipping is a given in the US, unlike in Europe where restaurants and bars actually pay their staff. However, Daytona was dismayed with the simplicity of the gesture. “At least start with a compliment – what about my eyes, or asking me for smile? Why else would I be doing this job?” Daytona stated, discouraged at her fruitless effort. “I was wearing a Bavarian Dirndl with everything out and tight in all the right places. I’d even done my hair.”
After investigation, the patron was identified but unfortunately he declined to comment further on the matter, stating: “I thought the money said it all.”
